Today we had respite from the rain.  We've been battered by storms almost daily since I posted last.  So this is Winter on the Oregon coast.  I don't mind, these storms have a beauty of their own.  But when we woke this morning and the sun was out, it was like coming up for air.  We ran to the beach for two hours.  I think our lungs are full and ready for what next may come.

We've been having the most beautiful weather.  It doesn't feel like winter.  It doesn't feel like anything.  I like it.  I like it a lot.

I think we have an 80's Christmas going on.  I found a little, fake tree down in the basement with colored lights, tinsel and all.  The boys really liked it, so we put it up.  Dan wants to go get a real tree.

So no worries about chores and we ate leftovers all day.  It was a nice, and fairly responsibility-free day, so I got to do some sewing.  I had thrifted this perfect, practically weightless, shear fabric for making produce bags, so I got a few of those done.

Well, here's my post, so you can guess the house is still standing.  Man, it's been windy and rainy.  A couple of days ago, it was just gorgeous.  We went exploring and found a baby seal resting on the beach.  We even spotted his mama just a little ways out in the water, who was apparently fishing.  I'm so thankful we get to live in the midst of such beauty.

Today starts the St. Phillip's fast. I've wanted to do Advent differently for years now, and this year I'm finally going to do it.

I made another Schoolhouse Tunic in some fabric my cousin gave me years ago. I think I needed to make it a size smaller.  I swim in it.  It makes it super comfy, but not super flattering.  And this outfit is super hand-made, as I made the scarf too.

It amazes me (and yet, it doesn't) that four little logs can create such entertainment for this crowd.  I wanted to keep Finn and James where I could easily see them while I worked this morning, so I brought some wood from the wood pile over. They had so much fun, regardless of the misting, and wanted lunch there that afternoon.

I visited my parent's house the other day, and their basil was of monstrous proportions.  So I helped them out, went home with two cups of the green, and made some crazy delicious pesto. I woke this morning and felt for a dress.  It's very nice dress weather outside. After a rough morning, the little fellows are playing nicely outside. I'm so thankful for moments like these. All of them playing together. We went to the pumpkin patch and it was so beautiful and scenic.  I pulled out my camera and started to click away when I realized I forgot my memory card in my computer.  Grrrrrr... Today we visited the Ballard Locks.  We learned more about the life cycle of the salmon and got to see some cool boats go from the bay to the sound and vice versa.

Today was beautiful. We all went for a lunch time walk around the lake. These are the woods I grew up in. The trails flooded with memories. All good ones, too.

I offered to come along and drop him off so he wouldn't have to bother trying to park downtown. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, every child learns the life cycle of the salmon. We went to the zoo.

We picked more berries for a four berry tart.

And we had another birthday. Now he is six. John and Finn were so sweet and helped to make their brother's day special with homemade decorations and cards.

I made chocolate cupcakes from this cookbook.  The frosting was good, the cake tasted "healthy".  It was fine by my boys, though.

We went to the beach today.  It was perfect.  And also the second time I've been to the beach with the kids in the last few days and forgot my camera.  Precious moment after precious moment just lost, never to be recorded to digital memory. grrrrrr.......
